Earth day 2022 –Calling all to invest in Earth

From a swirl of dust and gases to the most beautiful planet; from a ball of fire to ice and water clad globe; from the poisonous atmosphere, to life-supporting air; it took billions of years and number of strikes by celestial bodies, for the Earth to become liveable. On the other hand, it has taken humanity only a few centuries to destroy the quality of the environmental factors which support life; we are gradually reversing the process of formation of Earth’s environment.
Where we are
Our planet has always backed all our actions by providing us with necessary resources and a favourable environment; but instead of protecting it, we have exploited it to such an extent that it is impossible to recover the damage. Industrialization and overpopulation have led to hazardous pollution levels and rapid depletion of natural resources; global temperature is rising constantly which could destroy the balance between the Earth systems.
If we continue to live irresponsibly, it would become difficult for our future generations to survive on Earth. The future of humanity is in grave danger and there is a pressing need to conserve the environment.
Although most people are aware of the dangers surrounding our planet, not everyone is aware of the magnitude of this danger; people are willing to contribute to the conservation of the Earth, but are not aware of the actions needed to restore our environment.
Over decades, people’s concern for the environment has been growing, resulting in environmental activism and movements. On April22, 1970, around 20 million people took to streets across cities, to protest against environmental issues and human negligence towards those issues; every year, on April 22, this movement is commemorated as Earth Day. The day is dedicated to spreading awareness on environmental issues and calling for action to restore the planet and promote sustainability.
Invest In Our Planet
This year, the world would be celebrating the 52nd Earth Day with a special theme — Invest in our Planet. This theme highlights the symbiosis between business and sustainability. There is an urgent need for the business community to take action against environmental issues. Business can provide the resources and finance needed to drive the change toward sustainability; business backs innovation, which is the key to sustainable development.
Way forward
We need to shift towards greener economies and encourage nature positive businesses. Governments need to build strong policies for promoting green businesses, and individuals need to change their preferences towards sustainable products and services.
